Technical Thinking Workshop: Simple Machines
A hands-on workshop for learning about and constructing models of simple machines. Using the principles of physics, kids will gain an understanding of the usefulness of simple machines, as well as how more complex machines operate.

“If fantastic homes already exist, what houses will we see in the future?” ask Aleksandra & Daniel Mizielinski in their book H.O.U.S.E. Our program identifies ten architects of the highly creative houses in the world. We will build a special design dome houses using various materials. We hope to see creativity at its best!

Do you know that there are inventors who began changing the world in their teens? They succeeded making medical and environmental advances. Come to see if you are cut out for making it as an inventor. Whether you plan to be scientist, artist, innovator or entrepreneur come and tackle problems of the 21st century. During this 10-modules after school stem club you will understand the difference between making, tinkering and engineering while developing your own prototypes and solving design challenges.
STRENGTH OF SHAPES
Our program will highlight the phenomenon of strength of different shapes, illustrating why structural engineers continue to use the triangle as the structural shape of choice. Participants will be involved in geometry and measurements as they will work as civil engineers to design and build their own bridges. They will explore the strength of trusses made with different triangular elements to evaluate the various structural properties. Ultimately they will experience first-hand how architects and engineers use geometry.
Engineer a Healthier Future
Former Vice President Biden called for a ‘Cancer Moonshot’ to accelerate cancer research. That kind of effort requires all of us to work together on prevention, detection and treatment. We will model Gold Nanoshell Cancer Treatment and learn about biomedical engineering while designing, building and testing prototype surgical tools to treat cancer.
ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER - water filtration
Predicting that the availability of quality water is a critical problem in many areas of the world. Students will learn about water polluters and design, build and test water filters.
How to five R’s?
How to save the world from…an environmental disaster? We will show you how easy is to add ‘Refuse ‘to Reduce-Reuse-Recycle. But do you know how to recycle food and other organic materials? Just Rot it. You will learn about vermicomposting, create different models of composting bins and finally add fifth R to the mix. Our ultimate goal should be zero waste!
