The League of Incredible Houses

If fantastic homes already exist, what houses will we see in the future?” ask Aleksandra & Daniel Mizielinski in their book H.O.U.S.E. Our program identifies ten architects of the highly creative houses in the world. Participants will get familiar with work by Antti Lovag, Natural Ellipse by Masaki Endoh/Masahiro Ikeda, M-House by Michael Jantzen, R128 by Werner Sobek, Takasugi-an by Terunobu Fujimori, Dragspelhuset by Maartje Lammers/Boris Zeisser, Treetent by Dré Wapeaar, Rucksack by Stefan Eberstadt, and Tea House by Kengo Kuma. We will build houses using various materials and based on numerous environmental factors including climate and terrain. We will introduce the principles of engineering design process to help young architects make blueprints and prototypes. We hope to see creativity at its best!

Strength of Shapes

Our program will highlight the phenomenon of strength of different shapes, illustrating why structural engineers continue to use the triangle as the structural shape of choice. Participants will be involved in geometry and measurements as they will work as civil engineers to design and build their own bridges. They will explore the strength of trusses made with different triangular elements to evaluate the various structural properties. Ultimately they will experience first-hand how architects and engineers use geometry.

Technology can be considered in a more creative context and become a way to self-express. This kind of connection provides a way to learn by doing, instead of just by listening, reading, or observing others. During our workshop we will play with designing and making soft circuits of increasing complexity. Electrical parts like batteries, wires, and LEDs will be sewed into textiles and make clothing look futuristic and fun. We will highlight that E-textiles or smart textiles serve medical purposes.

Children love sports and solving puzzles! Our program Sport Science combines physical and academic activities into one STEM Obstacle Course. The kids divided into teams will run through numerous stations and try to tackle various problems related to effective body functioning, way to exercise, diet and life-style that contribute to fitness and good health. The team that completes the course the fastest, with the most correct answers, wins!


SUMMER 2015, "Every Hero Has a Story", KCLS

league of extraordinary women scientists

Our four modules program The witty league of extraordinary women scientists highlights four great women scientists. Each module contains an introduction with often-humorous stories from scientists’ lives, which educate children about the history of science and world heritage.  Besides a demonstration, each module contains hands-on individual and group activities. We especially would like to encourage girls to consider science related education and careers, which includes exposing both boys and girls to successful female scientists. 


Be a crime scene investigator is a series of units that takes students through the science disciplines that are used in criminal investigation. Students will collect evidence and process materials found at different crime scenes using math, biology, and chemistry laboratory methods. Through hands-on activities, they will unmask evidence and draw conclusions. Students will see their own DNA, track a thief with fingerprints found at the crime scene and perform electrophoresis of dyes, a method routinely used for the identification of criminals. We will show students education and career options in forensic science.
